When we recommend a Positive Input Ventilation system or PIV for short, most customers have never heard about them. We thought it may be easier to read through our FAQs here so you have a better understanding of what one is. Email info@nwdampmould.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
A Positive Ventilation System is a ventilation system that brings filtered air into your home and removes stale air, radon gas, and moisture from it. It has been proven to help allergy and asthma sufferers by guaranteeing filtered quality indoor air.
A PIV works by drawing air from your loft or via a ventilation shaft which is core drilled through an external wall (depending on the model). The air goes through a filtration unit and is then blown around the property, expelling stale air, unwanted chemicals, and moisture. The unit uses air displacement to ventilate a whole dwelling.
As air is constantly moving, humid air cannot settle on cold surfaces, such as windows or outer walls, meaning it cannot condensate. Eventually, this humid air is forced out of natural leakage points throughout the home – such as windows, under doors or even through keyholes. PIV has become the UK’s most popular method of low-energy, whole-home ventilation, and is now installed in over 1 million homes in the UK.
Yes! These systems have been used for decades to successfully erradicate moisture from properties. We have installed them in hundreds of family homes, rental properties such as Houses of Multiple Occupation, flats and basements.
There are over 100 various makes and models to choose from and NW Damp and Mould Specialists only sell the best quality PIVs that come with a 5-year warranty (1-year parts and labour / 4-year parts) to ensure our customers have the peace of mind they have made the right decision. Depending on model and size, PIVs can cost between £1,000 to £2,000 to install. This includes initial site survey, supply, and installation including, core hole drilling, air ducts and additional electrical parts such as wiring and fused spurs. Plus a final inspection to check settings are correct and the system is running as it should.
No.
A Positive Input Ventilation system must be installed by a trained professional, who has surveyed the property to calculate which unit is best suited, and then installed by a qualified electrician who has been trained to correctly install the unit. Once installed, we then come out for a third time to check the settings are correct and to adjust them if required. For a small fee, we are always happy to come out and adjust the system to tweak your requirements, too.
A PIV is discreetly installed into the loft space of your home and all you will see on the ceiling is a non-obtrusive contemporary circular diffuser.
Yes! We supply and install ventilation systems to flats and basements all the time! They can be installed discreetly in a hallway or cupboard.
